Custom keyrings UK: the promotional gift people actually keep
Custom keyrings in the UK are one of the cheapest ways to keep your brand in someone's hand every day. A leaflet gets binned. A branded pen goes missing. A keyring lives on the same set of keys your customer picks up five or six times a day, for years. This guide covers why they work as a promotional product, who buys them, what you can order, and how to get a batch made without a big minimum order.
Why custom keyrings still beat most promotional products
Promotional merchandise only works if people keep it. That's the whole game. Most branded giveaways fail because they compete with something the recipient already owns and likes better.
Keyrings are different for one simple reason. Almost everyone carries keys, and almost nobody is attached to the keyring already on them. Swap in a well made one and it stays. Every time your customer opens the front door, starts the car or hands their keys over, your logo is right there.
They're also cheap per exposure. A keyring is small, light and cheap to post, and the branding keeps working long after the campaign that paid for it has finished.
Key takeaway: the value of a promotional keyring is in how long it survives. A finish that still looks good after two years in a pocket earns far more brand exposure than a cheap print that scuffs in a month.
Who orders branded keyrings, and what they use them for
We make keyrings for all sorts of UK businesses in our Hull workshop. The reasons are pretty consistent:
- Estate and letting agents. The keyring goes on the keys at handover and stays with the new owner or tenant, often for years.
- Car dealers and garages. Handed over with the keys after a sale or a service, so the customer knows who to ring next time.
- Trade shows and exhibitions. Light, easy to hand out by the hundred, and far more likely to make it home than a brochure.
- Tradespeople and installers. Boiler engineers, locksmiths and window fitters leave one behind as a quiet reminder of who did the work.
- Clubs, charities and membership groups. Sold as merchandise, given to members, or used as a thank you for donors.
- Online shops. Dropped in the box as a free extra with an order.
- Staff and onboarding packs. A cheap way to make a welcome pack feel thought about.
If you already order custom stickers or labels from us, keyrings usually run off the same artwork, so adding them to an order is easy.
The types of custom keyrings you can order
There are three main routes for a UK business ordering custom keyrings, and the right one depends on how many you need and what impression you want to make.
Metal keyrings
A metal fob with your design applied on top. They have weight to them, which people read as quality. Good for client gifts and vehicle handovers, where the keyring is meant to feel like a present.
Plastic keyrings
Lighter and cheaper per unit, and they take full colour CMYK printing beautifully. This is the workhorse option for big giveaway runs and trade show stands.
Domed resin and flexi keyrings
Your printed design gets a clear resin dome poured over the top. It magnifies the artwork, gives it a deep gloss, and protects the print from scratches. Flexi fobs use the same dome on a soft, bendy backing, which feels different in the hand. Our domed resin labels use the same process, so if you've seen those you know the finish.
If you want to compare the three properly, read our guide to metal, plastic and domed resin flexi keyrings before you commit to a material.
| What you need | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Trade show handouts, big volume | Plastic | Lowest unit cost, full colour print, light to post |
| Client gifts and key handovers | Metal | Weight and feel make it read as a proper gift |
| Merchandise you want people to notice | Domed resin or flexi | The gloss dome makes colour pop and shields the print |
| Testing a design before a big run | Any type, small batch | No minimum order, so a trial run costs very little |
Designing a keyring that actually gets kept
A keyring is a small canvas, looked at quickly and from close up, usually while someone is doing something else. Keep it simple.
- Logo first. Make it the biggest thing on there. If your logo has fine detail, ask us and we'll tell you honestly whether it holds at that size.
- One contact detail, not four. A short web address or a phone number. Not both, and not a QR code the size of a pinhead.
- Real contrast. Light logo on a dark background, or the other way round. Mid tone on mid tone just disappears.
- Vector artwork if you have it. A PDF, EPS or AI file scales cleanly. A logo pulled off a website usually doesn't.
- Use both sides. Some shapes print front and back, which is free extra space. Logo on the front, web address on the back, is a safe split.
- Think about the shape. A shape that echoes what you do, a house, a van, a spanner, gets picked up and looked at. A plain rectangle rarely does.
Send us whatever you've got. If the artwork needs tidying up we'll say so, and you get a free digital proof before anything goes into production. Nothing prints until you've approved it.
Bulk and wholesale keyring orders
Unit cost drops as quantity goes up, because setup is a fixed chunk of the job spread across however many you order. Ten keyrings carry that setup between them. A thousand barely feel it.
So if you need keyrings for a trade show in the autumn and a campaign at Christmas, ordering them in one go usually costs less than two separate runs. We keep your artwork on file, so a repeat order is a quick call to 01482 653790 and a confirmation. Orders over 99 pounds ship free anywhere in the UK, and keyrings are light, so a decent quantity clears that easily.
No minimum order, and why that matters
Plenty of UK suppliers won't take a small keyring order at all. We will. Everything is made to order in Hull, so a run of ten goes through the same process as a run of ten thousand.
That's useful when you're not sure yet. Order a small batch, put it in front of customers, see how the design lands, then scale up. One-offs work too: a company anniversary, a single event, one client's welcome pack. Nobody ends up sitting on a box of leftover keyrings with last year's phone number on them.
Tip: if you're torn between two designs, order a handful of each. Seeing them side by side in real life settles the argument faster than any meeting will.

Frequently asked questions
How much do custom keyrings cost in the UK?
It depends on the type, the size, the shape and how many you order. Metal costs more per unit than plastic, and the unit price falls as quantity rises. Tell us what you need and we'll quote it properly rather than guessing. Quotes are free.
Is there a minimum order for custom keyrings?
No. We take low and no minimum orders, so you can order a single sample, ten for an event, or several thousand for a campaign. The process is the same at every quantity.
How long do custom keyrings take to make?
Production starts once you've approved your free digital proof. Turnaround depends on type and quantity, so ask when you request a quote and we'll give you a realistic date. Everything is made in Hull, so we're never waiting on anyone else.
What artwork do I need to supply?
A vector file such as a PDF, EPS or AI is ideal, because it scales without going fuzzy. A high resolution PNG or JPEG is usually fine too. If all you have is the logo off your website, send it anyway and we'll tell you whether it works at keyring size.
Are domed resin keyrings hard-wearing?
Yes. The clear dome sits over the print and takes the knocks instead of the artwork, so the colour underneath stays sharp through daily pocket use. It's the same finish we put on our domed products, and you can read more in our post on what domed resin stickers are.
